HoR member: Bouznika committees begin work on election preparations
A member of Libya’s House of Representatives, Hassan Al-Zarqa, has confirmed that joint committees formed during recent Bouznika meetings have started their work, aiming to establish a government that would facilitate elections and replace current parallel administrations.
Speaking on Sunday, Al-Zarqa said the committees will address previous electoral obstacles, including funding for the national census project.
He emphasised that Wednesday’s meeting demonstrated national forces’ initiative in resolving the political crisis “away from international interference.”
Al-Zarqa stated that while the Bouznika outcomes align with UN Acting Envoy Stephanie Khoury’s recent initiative, participants reject her proposal for an advisory committee on election laws.
He urged the UN mission to “support national solutions” rather than modify laws passed by elected authorities.
The Bouznika meeting’s final statement endorsed free elections based on laws drafted by the joint 6+6 committee, while expressing willingness to cooperate with the UN Support Mission in Libya.
