Ukraine extends diplomatic invitation to Libyan FM
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiha has extended an official invitation to Libya’s interim Foreign Minister Taher Al-Baour to visit Kyiv, marking a potential strengthening of diplomatic ties between the two nations.
The invitation was conveyed during a meeting in Tripoli on Tuesday, where Al-Baour received Ukraine’s Special Envoy for Middle East and African Affairs, Maxim Sobh, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation headquarters.
According to a statement posted on the Libyan ministry’s Facebook page, Sobh delivered a written message from Minister Sibiha along with the invitation for Al-Baour to visit Ukraine “at a time that suits him.”
The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral relations and reviving key diplomatic mechanisms, including the Libyan-Ukrainian committee and political consultations. A significant point of discussion was the planned reopening of the Ukrainian embassy in Tripoli.
Sobh expressed Kyiv’s interest in activating existing bilateral cooperation agreements between the two nations to serve their mutual interests, the ministry reported.
