U.S. envoy warns of Libya arms embargo violations
U.S. Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield has expressed concern over reported violations of Libya’s arms embargo, specifically citing Russian vessels allegedly delivering military equipment to the country.
Addressing the Security Council, Thomas-Greenfield highlighted illegal oil and petroleum exports that reportedly benefit criminal organisations at the expense of Libyan citizens. She emphasised the importance of the Panel of Experts’ ongoing investigations into smuggling operations.
The ambassador welcomed the Panel’s work in identifying entities violating the embargo and reaffirmed U.S. commitment to using sanctions as a deterrent against threats to Libya’s stability.
