SSA Discovers 40 Migrants in Tajoura Warehouse
Forty Pakistani migrants, each carrying dreams of a new life in Europe, were found by the Stability Support Authority’s (SSA) Department of Investigations and Evidence Collection in a warehouse in Tajoura, 23 kilometres east of Tripoli. These individuals had invested their life savings of $20,000 each to make the journey.
The SSA’s investigation revealed a complex story of migration that began in Asia and led through North Africa. The migrants’ journey started with flights landing at Benina International Airport in Benghazi, where they were then brought to temporary shelter in Tajoura while awaiting boat crossings across the Mediterranean Sea.
“Behind every case like this are real people making difficult choices,” shared an SSA official from the Department of Investigations. “We found families who had sold everything they owned, hoping to build a better future.”
The investigation uncovered that each person had paid $20,000 to secure their passage, reflecting the substantial sums that change hands in such operations. The SSA teams are now working to identify the Libyan nationals involved in organizing these journeys.
As the Immigration Prosecution Office begins processing the case, the migrants remain under care while their situations are assessed. Their story adds to the broader picture of migration through Libya, where thousands each year pass through on their way to hoped-for opportunities elsewhere.
The SSA continues its work addressing migration challenges along Libya’s shores, balancing humanitarian concerns with their mandate to monitor border movements.
