UK Foreign Minister confirms Britain’s support for Serraj government as Libya’s sole legitimate government
The British Foreign Minister, Philip Hammond, told Fayiz Al-Serraj on the phone Saturday that the UK sees it necessary for the accord government to start operating from Tripoli once the security situation allows.
Hammond reiterated to the Head of the Presidential Council, Al-Serraj, Britain’s full support for the only legitimate government in Libya as it was approved unanimously by the United Nations Security Council.
He also called on Al-Serraj and his accord government to control the security departments and forces as well as financial institutions in the country so that they can achieve peace and stability for all Libyans, according to the UK official website.
“The UK and the international community are ready to help the GNA to overcome the series of hurdles it is facing in Libya, especially ISIS threat, human-trafficking and other everyday life issues.” Hammond concluded.
