Mystery man poses as presidential envoy in Libya

Libyan officials meet with controversial visitor: Foreign Minister Abdel Hadi Al-Huwaij (third from left) with the purported Guinea-Bissau envoy ‘Amadou Lamine Sanou’ (second from left) at the ministry headquarters in Benghazi

The Guinean foreign ministry has issued a strong denial regarding claims that “Amadou Lamine Sanou” serves as a presidential adviser or government representative, stating he has no authority to convey messages on behalf of the president.

Officials emphasised that “Sanou” has never held a ministerial position or any role within the Guinean government, and urged Libyan authorities to take appropriate action should similar incidents occur.

The controversy emerged after Libya’s parallel government in Benghazi hosted “Sanou” on 1 November. Foreign Minister Abdel Hadi Al-Huwaij received him as a purported minister of state and special adviser to Guinea-Bissau’s president.

During the disputed diplomatic engagement, discussions reportedly focused on bilateral cooperation and regional developments.

The visiting delegate also met with Misbah Douma, second deputy speaker of Libya’s House of Representatives, allegedly delivering greetings from Guinea-Bissau’s president.

Libya’s eastern-based foreign ministry claimed “Sanou” expressed interest in developing cross-national ties and praised Libya’s regional role in promoting stability and development.
