International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor Karim Khan has arrived in Tripoli ahead of his scheduled UN Security Council briefing on Libya tomorrow.

Khan met with Libya’s Attorney General, Al-Siddiq Al-Sour, and other senior judicial officials shortly after his arrival on Monday. The discussions, which included Libya’s ICC State Coordinator, focused on developing investigative procedures for serious violations under the ICC’s jurisdiction.

The meeting established plans for closer cooperation between national and international judiciary systems, with involvement from Libya’s three main authorities. Officials emphasised their shared commitment to ensuring justice for victims whilst preventing impunity for serious crimes.

During tomorrow’s Security Council briefing, Khan is expected to outline the ICC’s ongoing efforts to ensure accountability in Libya and address the challenges facing the Court’s work in the country.

The ICC has held jurisdiction over crimes committed in Libya since 15 February 2011, following the UN Security Council’s referral of the situation to the Court. Its work focuses on investigating and prosecuting serious international crimes, including war crimes and crimes against humanity.
