Dozens killed in Israeli strikes across Lebanon

More than 40 people have been killed in Israeli airstrikes targeting multiple locations in Lebanon, marking one of the deadliest days since tensions escalated along the Israel-Lebanon border.

In the eastern city of Baalbek, at least 12 people died when Israeli forces struck a civil defence centre, local governor Bashir Khodr confirmed. Officials say more than 20 people were in the building at the time of the attack.

A separate strike on the city’s Al-Shaab neighbourhood killed eight people, including five women, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry. Twenty-seven others were wounded in that incident.

In southern Lebanon, six people died in an attack on the town of Arab Salim, with four of the victims identified as paramedics.

The ministry reported four additional fatalities from strikes on various locations in eastern Lebanon.

These attacks represent a significant escalation in the cross-border violence between Israel and Lebanon, which has intensified since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza.
