Lebanese TV host quits after death threats
A prominent Lebanese television presenter has left her job at MTV Lebanon following what she describes as a campaign of intimidation linked to her criticism of Hezbollah and Iran’s influence in the country.
Iman Shuwaikh says she faced death threats and was stalked at her home and while travelling. Her family members were also allegedly targeted.
“I cannot put my life and my family’s lives at risk,” Ms Shuwaikh wrote on X (formerly Twitter). She cited the absence of state protection and weak legal frameworks as factors in her decision to step down.
The presenter has been known for her outspoken views against Hezbollah, that wields significant power in Lebanon.
MTV Lebanon, one of the country’s leading broadcasters, has not yet commented on her departure.
The incident highlights ongoing tensions in Lebanon over media freedom and the safety of journalists who criticise powerful political actors.
