Libya joins African-Russian counter terrorism initiative

Libya’s Acting Foreign Minister Taher Al-Baour has pledged his country’s support for international counter-terrorism initiatives during the inaugural Russia-Africa Partnership Forum ministerial conference in Sochi.

The conference, which brought together African and Russian officials, centred on enhancing cooperation in counter-terrorism, scientific advancement, and technological development across the African continent.

A key outcome was the adoption of a joint Russian-African statement emphasising increased coordination on counter-terrorism efforts between African nations and Russia.

On the sidelines of the conference, Al-Baour met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments.

The two diplomats emphasised the need to strengthen political consultations, particularly regarding matters before the UN Security Council, according to Libya’s Foreign Ministry.

The Libyan delegation, led by Al-Baour, participated in wide-ranging discussions on issues affecting African-Russian relations and regional security concerns.

The Russia-Africa Partnership Forum represents a growing effort to strengthen diplomatic and security ties between Russia and African nations amid evolving global challenges.
