Morocco’s population has risen to nearly 37 million, marking a significant increase over the past 10 years, officials say.

Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit announced in a government memo that the latest census shows the North African nation’s population grew by 9% to 36,828,330.

The data reveals dramatic changes in household numbers, which surged by 82% since 2014 to reach more than 9.2 million. This sharp rise – an addition of almost two million households – reflects major demographic shifts across both city and countryside.

The number of foreign-born residents has also climbed steeply, increasing by 71.86% to 148,152 since the last census.

Officials at Morocco’s High Commission for Planning are set to publish detailed demographic findings in the Kingdom’s official gazette, once the government approves the census data.
