Libya’s senior leadership has welcomed fresh momentum in economic ties with Italy, following high-level diplomatic talks in Tripoli.

Presidential Council Deputy Head Mossa Al-Koni met Italian Ambassador Gianluca Alberini on Sunday to discuss expanding cooperation between the two Mediterranean neighbours.

The meeting follows Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s recent visit to the Libyan capital, Tripoli.

“The appointment of new Central Bank leadership marks a positive turn for our economy,” Mr Al-Koni told reporters.

Italy has become the first European country to resume commercial flights to Libya, with both nations now focusing on upgrading Tripoli’s main airport.

The talks covered several key areas:
– Healthcare reforms
– Educational partnerships
– Archaeological projects
– Agricultural development in Libya’s south

Ambassador Alberini said Rome remains “fully committed” to supporting Libya’s stability through UN-backed diplomatic efforts.

The renewed partnership aims to revive several major projects that were put on hold during years of unrest in the North African nation.

Libya has struggled to rebuild its economy since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, but officials say recent diplomatic breakthroughs could signal a turning point.
