Libya and Italy to cooperate on local governance

Libya and Italy are teaming up to boost local governance in Libya. Badr Al-Deen Al-Toumi, Libya’s Minister of Local Governance, recently sat down with his Italian counterpart, Paolo Zangrillo, to discuss ways to make local government more effective. Libya’s ambassador to Italy, Mohannad Younis, also joined the conversation.

The two ministers found common ground in their approaches to local government, especially when it comes to giving local communities more say in how things are run.

They agreed that giving local authorities more power to manage their own affairs and develop their regions is key to a stronger Libya.

To help make this happen, they’ve drawn up plans for training programs to sharpen the skills of public sector workers, with a focus on using technology and smart city planning.

Al-Toumi gave a nod to the Public Administration School for their work in developing employee skills. Both sides are keen to keep the momentum going and create a roadmap for their partnership.
