Libyan national arrested in Germany over Israeli Embassy attack plot
German authorities apprehended a Libyan man on Saturday near Berlin on suspicion of planning an attack against the Israeli embassy, according to the federal prosecutor’s office.
The suspect was reportedly targeting the embassy in Berlin, as revealed by German newspaper Bild. This information was confirmed by an Israeli embassy spokesperson, who acknowledged the existence of a plan to attack the diplomatic mission.
Bild reported that a heavily armed elite police unit raided the suspect’s apartment in the Berlin suburb of Bernau. A separate raid was conducted in an apartment in the western city of Sankt Augustin, potentially to question witnesses and gather evidence.
According to Bild, German authorities initiated the operation following a tip-off from an unspecified foreign intelligence agency.
