Libya SSA strengthen border security with Tunisia

In a bid to curb illegal activity and reinforce security, the Stability Support Apparatus (SSA) in Nalut, a city 269 km from Tripoli, has announced intensified patrols along the Libyan-Tunisian border.

The focus of these operations will be the remote desert areas notorious for smuggling and illegal crossings.

The SSA underscored the critical role border security plays in safeguarding the nation, describing it as the “first line of defence” against threats such as arms and drug smuggling, and the infiltration of terrorist elements.

“Securing the borders contributes to enhancing internal stability by combating cross-border crime and imposing the sovereignty of the Libyan state over all its territories,” the Stability Support Apparatus asserted in a statement.

These heightened patrols represent the latest in a series of measures designed to strengthen Libya’s border security. The government is also collaborating with Tunisian authorities to tackle these shared challenges.

Formed in 2021, the Stability Support Apparatus (SSA) is a Libyan government agency responsible for internal security. Its duties include protecting government officials and buildings, participating in combat operations, and apprehending individuals suspected of national security crimes.
