China urges withdrawal of foreign forces from Libya

A senior Chinese diplomat has called for the withdrawal of all foreign troops and mercenaries from Libya.

Speaking at a UN Security Council briefing on Wednesday, Dai Bing, China’s deputy permanent representative to the UN, said the move was crucial for achieving lasting peace in the North African country.

Mr Dai stressed the importance of respecting Libya’s sovereignty and urged all Libyan parties to comply with the ceasefire agreement. He also called on the international community to support African-led solutions to the conflict.

Mr Dai said China supported the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and called on the Security Council to take effective steps to address Libya’s concerns, particularly regarding frozen assets.

He added that China was concerned about the fragile security situation in Libya and called for stronger international assistance in counter-terrorism and border security.
