Egypt’s National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has awarded fifth-generation (5G) mobile service licenses to Orange Egypt, Vodafone Egypt, and e& Egypt.

  • NTRA grants 15-year 5G licenses, totaling $675 million
  • Deal covers 5G services and renewal of existing licenses
  • Minister touts 5G’s impact on economic growth, digital transformation

The agreements, valued at $675 million in total, also include the renewal of existing licenses for the next 15 years.

This follows a $150 million agreement signed with Telecom Egypt in January. All mobile operators in Egypt are now authorized to offer 5G services.

“5G technology will play a pivotal role in accelerating Egypt’s digital transformation and boosting our economy,” said Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, at the signing ceremony.

5G networks offer significantly faster speeds than previous generations, enabling advancements in various sectors and improving Egypt’s standing in global ICT rankings. According to Cisco, 5G can deliver speeds up to 20 Gbps, compared to 1 Gbps for 4G.

The move aligns with the government’s strategy to modernise telecom infrastructure and promote competition in the sector.
