Nasrallah’s killing: Iranian informant tipped off Israel, Security Source Says
A Lebanese security source has claimed that an Iranian informant provided Israel with crucial information about Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah’s location prior to his assassination on Friday.
Nasrallah was killed in a massive Israeli airstrike targeting his highly secure underground headquarters in Beirut’s southern suburbs. The Lebanese source, speaking to Le Parisien, said Israel relied on intelligence from an Iranian mole to ensure Nasrallah’s presence before launching the attack.
According to the source, the informant alerted Israel about Nasrallah’s planned arrival at the headquarters on Friday afternoon, just hours before the strike. Israeli F-35s, armed with bunker-buster bombs, reportedly waited in Lebanese airspace for the target to appear.
Nasrallah had convened an emergency meeting with other commanders, including a member of Iran’s Quds Force, following the funeral of a Hezbollah drone unit commander killed the day before. Israel waited until all were gathered in the secure underground room before launching the attack, dropping six two-ton bombs.
The explosion was felt across Beirut, leaving a 30-meter-deep crater where the headquarters once stood. Since Nasrallah’s death, Hezbollah has been largely silent, with reports suggesting Iran is prioritizing the group’s regrouping efforts.Meanwhile, Israel continues its strikes on Hezbollah’s military infrastructure.
The revelation of an Iranian informant highlights the complexities and potential internal divisions within the Iran-Hezbollah alliance. It also raises questions about the future of Hezbollah and the potential for further escalation in the region.
