Libya’s political crisis can only be resolved through elections, says Russian ambassador

Youssef Al-Aqouri, the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives, and Aydar Aganin, Moscow’s ambassador to Libya, met in Benghazi to discuss ways to enhance educational cooperation and provide scholarships for Libyan students in Russia. They also aimed to revive joint agreements related to civil safety and disaster response.

During the meeting, the two parties also exchanged views on the latest political developments and electoral laws issued by the House of Representatives.

Abdullah Blehiq, the spokesperson of the House of Representatives, emphasized Al-Aqouri’s commitment to strengthening relations with Russia. He expressed his hope for Russia to play a supportive role in ensuring Libya’s stability and the removal of all foreign forces and mercenaries.

The Russian ambassador, on his part, emphasized his country’s dedication to supporting Libya in conducting elections. He stressed that elections are the only democratic means for the Libyan people to choose their representatives. Additionally, he mentioned that efforts are underway to establish a Russian consulate in Benghazi in the near future, which would facilitate the monitoring of relations and cooperation between the two nations.
