Erdoğan invited to Turkish-Libyan Forum in Tripoli

Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, has discussed with the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan several economic, military and political issues.

This came in a broad meeting held on Friday in Istanbul, which was attended by the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya and the Ministers of State for Cabinet Affairs, Communication and Political Affairs, and the Advisor to the Governor of the Central Bank, and from the Turkish side, Turkish Intelligence Chief Hakan Fidan, Adviser to the Turkish President Ibrahim Kalin, and Head of the Communication Department of the Turkish Presidency, Fakhr Eddin Alton.

The meeting focused on following up on the political file and unifying international and local efforts to support the elections.

Several economic issues of both public and private sectors were also discussed, as well as promoting military cooperation between the two countries through training and enhancement of all military and support forces.

In his opening remarks, the Turkish President stressed the need to preserve the security and safety of Tripoli from any military operations, and change can only take place through elections, reaffirming his support and cooperation with Libya in all economic, security and military fields, paying tribute to those who fell in recent attacks.

For his part, Dbeibah underlined the importance of Turkey’s role in supporting international efforts to advance and support elections as an international priority, considering that what happened in the capital, Tripoli, last week is an attempt to seize power by force and conspiracies and that Libya has no alternative except the elections option.

The meeting concluded by agreement on a bilateral work programme that covers military and energy cooperation and return of Turkish companies to complete the halted projects in Libya.

An invitation was extended to the Turkish president to attend the first Turkish-Libyan Forum to be held next November in the presence of specialised Turkish companies.
