Expert: Rome and Ankara want to put an end to domestic divergences in Libya
Ali Bakir, assistant professor and Turkey expert at Qatar University’s Ibn Khaldon Center, confirmed that Libya’s stability is an “issue of common interest” for Italy and Turkey.
Speaking to Nova News Agency on the sidelines of the Italian-Turkish government summit co-chaired by Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said: “Rome and Ankara are both interested in ending domestic conflicts in Libya”.
He stressed that Italy and Turkey have invested a great deal to find a solution to the current internal crisis and Libya also has a significant economic role to play; Consequently, stability, security and prosperity in Libya are in the common interest for Turkey and Italy.
Bakir added: “Despite the complex situation, I believe there are great opportunities for both governments – Italy and Turkey to assist the Libyan people in making progress towards meeting their needs.”
