Libya’s Stabilisation Support Apparatus rejects Amnesty accusation of human rights violations

Amnesty International recently reported that the Stabilisation Support Apparatus (SSA) has detained migrants and refugees in Libya and has been involved in numerous human rights violations.

These accusations have been met with surprise from the SSA as it has been dedicated to rescuing thousands of displaced persons in this country as well as providing them with much-needed shelter. Libya (known as a transit nation for migrants), with the assistance of its Department of Combating Settlement and Illegal Immigration, has been dealing with significant migratory issues for a lengthy period.

The Stabilisation Support Apparatus is mandated to implement Libyan law by following its standards of justice and human rights to deter any illegal practices that might be issued by its employees.

It is stressing that being fully transparent and professional, while following all Libyan legal requirements, is of extreme importance in securing the security and stability of the Libyan state.

The Stabilisation Support Apparatus is requesting Amnesty International to determine the accuracy of its reports, as migrant abuse throughout the Mediterranean region has been well documented, and it wishes to continue its practices of protecting those who are in need.
