Arab League calls all Libyan parties for direct talks
The Secretary General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, called on Libyan parties to look for the interest of the whole country rather than pursuing narrow personal interests, adding that Libya is at a dangerous crossroad and all parties need to cooperate to hold elections that preserve the unity and sovereignty of the country.
Aboul Gheit urged all parties to rely on dialogue to settle differences rather than conflicts and arms, saying preserving stability is needed for Libyans to be able to express their will freely.
Aboul Gheit indicated that it’s important that Libyans reach national consensus on measures leading to elections and to the acceptance of their results, saying the international community reiterated the essential need to hold presidential and parliamentary elections and end the presence of foreign military in the country.
