Al-Koni issues statement reiterating recent Election’s Importance
The Deputy Head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mossa Al-Koni, reiterated commitment to holding elections on time as per the schedule set by the Political Dialogue Forum’s roadmap.
Al-Koni, said that “any different opinion” about the election date set according to the political agreement does not represent the Presidential Council, but rather a “personal opinion.”
While Al-Koni welcomed, in a tweet on his account on “Twitter”, the statement of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya yesterday regarding the electoral due date scheduled for next December 24, he stressed the Presidential Council’s commitment to the election date set in accordance with the political agreement, and to refer the proposed amendments to Parliament’s constitutional rule, adding that “any different jurisprudence will not represent the Presidential Council without the agreement of the three members, and according to a signed report…otherwise it is a personal opinion.”
Al-Koni’s statement came as a response to an initiative by the other Deputy Head of the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi under the slogan “Presidential Council Initiative” as an attempt to end controversy about the legal basis for general elections on December 24.
The initiative says elections could be held in March 2022 with efforts to hold them starting from December 24 onwards.
