Al-Manghosh & Dendias discuss elections, Greek wildfires and bilateral cooperation
During a telephone phone call, Libya's Foreign Minister offered her condolences to her Greek counterpart for the fires in his homecountry and discussed bilateral cooperation and recent developments
Najla Al-Manghosh, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation spoke via phone with Nikos Dendias, Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs to discuss the latest developments in Libya and the tragic fires in Greece.
During the phone conversation, the Minister expressed sorrow for the loss of life in the fires that are destroying Greece’s forests and emphasized Libya’s support with the Greek government.
The Greek authorities are still battling huge flames that have engulfed the capital, Athens, and other parts of the nation, including Euboea, Greece’s second-biggest island.
Hundreds of people were evacuated from their houses, as winds and rising temperatures led to fresh flames that burned thousands of hectares, damaged dozens of homes, and interrupted work on Athens’ outskirts.
The Greek Minister, for his part, expressed his gratitude for the Minister’s sentiment and reiterated his country’s full support for her efforts, as well as those of the Presidential Council and the Government of National Unity, to achieve security and stability throughout Libya and to strive to end the Libyan crisis through responsible dialogue among all Libyan parties and the establishment of conditions for free and fair elections.
During the phone conversation, the current events in Libya, as well as measures to enhance bilateral collaboration, were discussed.
According to Greek Foreign Ministry officials, Dendias emphasized his country’s expectations and ambitions for the conduct of fair elections in Libya as planned in December.
