Minister of Health: Oxygen Crisis will be definitively resolved in three days

Dr Ali Al-Zanati, Minister of Health in the Government of National Unity, held an extended meeting with hospital administrators in Tripoli on Sunday through Zoom. 

According to the Ministry’s information office, the conference is being held to address the issue of medicinal oxygen.

The conference examined the present status of oxygen production, distribution efforts to fill the shortfall, and the potential of supplying hospitals with all means, whether by delivering oxygen from the Republic of Egypt or by giving hospitals urgent plants to cover their demand.

The Minister promised those in attendance that the oxygen issue will be addressed in three days.

The Minister’s remarks came only hours after Egypt delivered the third cargo of an estimated 100,000 litres of liquid oxygen supplies to the western region.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the cargo came as a result of an agreement reached earlier this year in April between its Minister Ali Al- Zanati and his Egyptian colleague, Hala Zayed.

The deal calls for Egypt to supply Libya with liquefied medical oxygen supplies in response to the Covid-19 pandemic’s urgent situation.

According to the Ministry of Health’s media office, this move comes as the Ministry of Health seeks urgent solutions to the issue of oxygen in isolation centres, particularly in the western area.
