Gas deliveries to the south will be halted as a result of ongoing armed attacks
Continued armed attacks on delivery drivers have gotten out of control according to the Arab Cooperative Association for the Transport of Oil and Oil Products
According to the Arab Cooperative Association for the Transport of Oil and Oil Products, gasoline shipments to the south will cease on Saturday, as mandated by the Al-Brega Oil Marketing Company in compliance with orders issued by the Government of National Unity in May.
According to Association Management Committee member Mufath Al-Mahdi Al-Atrash, the supply was cut off due to a series of armed attacks on drivers in the Brack beach area by criminals who terrorized drivers and forced them to exit their vehicles in the middle of the night by raining bullets above their heads and at their feet.
According to the statement, neither security authorities nor chiefs or residents of the Brack beach area had taken any effort to safeguard the drivers or assuage their fears.
The drivers have disclosed that security escorts often forced them out in the open near a military gate, which was equally insufficient to protect drivers and was shown during the attack.
“A citizen’s life is more precious than all sacrifices,” the statement said, “therefore we regret to tell you that our operations to the south will be stopped until further notice and until genuine security measures are in place.”
According to the statement, the following are the real security preparations:
The provision of safe and secure waiting spaces or accommodation supervised by security personnel.
Deployment of a security force from the Shuwerf area to the Sebha depot, equipped with different equipment, to monitor a security station, including Brack Beach, to provide coverage and social support.
The need for state officials to communicate with the Association’s administration and the Municipal Council to alleviate the drivers’ concerns, given that the area chiefs previously pledged to the Municipal Assembly their responsibility to protect their children and return any abuse that may occur to the drivers while on the job.
The Arab Cooperative Association for the Transport of Oil and Oil Products has urged Deputy Prime Minister Ramadan Aboujnah, as the officer in charge of the Southern region, to assume his responsibilities and take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of the drivers, as well as to try to re-accept the resumption of fuel transfers.
