UNSMIL and JMC condemn acts of hatred on the coastal road
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) joined the 5+5 Joint Military Commission in condemning the acts of violence and hate on the vital coastal road just days after it was reopened
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) joined the 5+5 Joint Military Commission (JMC) in denouncing the act of hate that occurred a few days ago on the Coastal Road, after its inauguration on July 30, 2021.
The Mission stated that the long-awaited completion of the coastal route is critical not just for reconnecting Libyans, enabling humanitarian access and trade to flow, but also for Libya’s peace and unity in general.
UNSMIL went on to state that careless and hateful actions like these threaten the execution of the October 2020 Ceasefire Agreement, the country’s reunification, and societal unity.
The Mission reiterated its support for the JMC’s demand for Libyan authorities to take prompt action and hold offenders responsible for such crimes.
Previously, the Joint Military Commission (JMC) rebuked 5 + 5 for what it called actions against the country’s unity and stability along the coastal route.
The Committee stated in a statement on Tuesday that what occurred on the coastal road was a kind of hate disseminated among Libyans by saboteurs, and obstructed national security.
The Committee condemned what had occurred on the coastal route, warning of the dangers of spreading disorder, sparking dissension, and ripping apart the social fabric.
The 5 + 5 Committee urged security forces to track down the perpetrators of these terrible crimes and bring them to the attention of the appropriate authorities for accountability.
