Prosecutor’s Office: GECOL workers were involved in bribery and corruption
After concluding investigations ordered by the attorney general, Libya's public Prosecutor's Office have established that employees of GECOL received bribes
According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, investigations into corruption at the State Electric Business (GECOL) have shown that workers of the company accepted bribes.
In a press release, the Office stated that investigations into the incident had begun on the instructions of the Attorney-General, Al-Siddiq Al-Sour, who had requested an investigation into the criminal facts referred to in the communication from the Internal Security Service against a number of employees of the Public Electricity Company administration.
As a result of the actions taken by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, there is evidence to show that accused employees of the State Electricity Company committed the offences of collecting illegal bribes due to abuse of office, violating the laws and regulations governing the management of public finances, and accepting an undue tender from the owners of the GECOL.
After the investigation was completed, the Attorney-General filed criminal charges against the perpetrators of the stated crimes and asked that they be prosecuted in line with the restrictions and descriptions he imposed.
