Meeting to discuss mechanisms for lifting the embargo on Libyan airports and aviation

Omar Mohamed Katee, Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, presided over a meeting at the Civil Aviation Service in Tripoli to explore methods for easing the ban on Libyan airports and aviation.

The meeting was attended by the Under-Secretary of State for Air Transport, Khalid Soisi, Director of the Civil Aviation Service, Director of the Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and a number of Libyan Civil Aviation Service officials and experts.

The meeting discussed mechanisms for lifting the European Union’s ban on Libyan civil aviation, as well as potential actions to enable Libyan airports to receive world airlines in terms of security and logistics, which, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Information Office, would help to restore normalcy to Libyan civil aviation traffic.

The meeting also addressed technical and political cooperation between the Ministries of Communications and Foreign Affairs in order to remove the restriction on domestic businesses travelling to Europe.
