Consultative discussions between the Presidential Council and the HNEC
Libya's High National Election Commission and the Presidential Council hold meetings to address awareness campaigns and the electoral process
During his meeting with the President of the National High Electoral Commission, (HNEC) Imad Al-Sayeh, the Director of the Presidential Council’s Office of Local Government and Elections, Abdul Basset Godan, affirmed that the Council was eager to conduct presidential elections on schedule.
The meeting, held at the headquarters of the HNEC, discussed mechanisms for joint cooperation between the Council and the Commission in terms of citizen awareness-raising programs and urged citizens to register as voters and candidates to ensure the success of the upcoming electoral entitlement in December.
According to the Presidential Council’s Information Office, Al-Sayeh has indicated that the Commission is ready to provide advice and technical support to the Presidential Council’s proposed campaigns in this regard, as well as to agree to continue holding periodic meetings to monitor the electoral process until it is completed.
According to Libya’s HNEC, the registration rate has surpassed 50% of the entire number of Libyan nationals who are eligible to vote.
The commission announced last week that the total number of voters registered in its database had reached 2,689,094. It said that the number of newly registered voters rose by 348,998 on July 31st.
