NCDC: The escalating epidemiological situation in the country is cause for concern
National Center for Disease Control's Director of Department of Vaccinations stated that the country's Covid-19 situation is deteriorating and the numbers are not being reflected accurately
According to Abdel Basset Samieu, Director of the Department of Vaccinations, the country’s epidemiological situation is still deteriorating, and the number of individuals infected is not properly represented in the overall number of cases since most people do not get tested or go to hospitals.
He calculated that just 10% of the true numbers are properly represented, and he verified the delivery of 500,000 doses to all vaccination sites in Libya during the last three days.
He also said that Libya is expecting 116,000 AstraZeneca doses and 243,000 Pfizer doses to come next week, with the latter being the very first from the American pharmaceutical company.
In all, nine shipments of vaccinations have been sent to Libya, with a total amount of 1.2 million doses supplied.
The Director of the Department of Vaccinations stated a few days ago that the epidemiological situation in the western region and certain parts of the south remained serious and concerning.
He urged authorities in the eastern area to properly prepare and equip the isolation sections, as well as to supply oxygen and other necessary equipment.
In a similar line, the Government of National Unity said that it would provide 500 million to the Ministry of Health from Chapter Five (Emergency Expenditures) of the yet-to-be-approved 2021 budget. The money will be used on ‘‘the essential requirements to combat the Covid-19 pandemic. ”
Due to an increasingly worrisome epidemiological scenario, Libya’s Government of National Unity ordered a two-week lockdown of the country’s most populous regions from 6 p.m. to 6 p.m.
