Libyan heads of state confirm Libya’s readiness to provide aid to Tunisia in its time of dire need
Libya's Prime Minister and head of Presidency Council both reaffirmed their country's stance to provide unwavering support to Tunisia in its time of crisis
Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, held a telephoned meeting with Tunisia’s President, Kais Saied, to discuss recent developments in the epidemiological situation.
According to the Tunisian President’s media office, the discussions focused on the reality of Tunisia-Libya cooperation, the health situation in Tunisia, and the issue of the two countries’ border closure.
The Head of the Government of National Unity reported that the decision to close the border with Tunisia was fraught with health risks and would be temporary, adding that coordination was in place between the two countries’ Ministers of Health.
The Libyan Prime Minister emphasized that his country would go to any length to assist Tunisia in combating the Covid-19 pandemic and providing special health equipment to the southern Tunisian region.
The President of the Republic, for his part, praised the Libyan Government’s fraternal and noble attitude, which reflected the depth of the two countries’ and peoples’ brotherly ties, as well as their shared values of synergy and solidarity.
Following the decision to close the border with Tunisia due to the worsening epidemiological situation, Libya’s President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Manfi, expressed Libya’s willingness to provide Tunisia with all of the medical equipment needed to deal with the Corona virus pandemic.
During a phone call with Tunisia’s President, Kais Saied, Al-Menfi emphasized that this is not an unusual position for the Libyan people and reflects the close historical ties that exist between the two neighboring countries.
Following the end of the epidemiological wave in Tunisia, the Tunisian Presidency indicated that there would be coordination with the Libyan side to resume normal movement of people and goods.
