GNU allocates 500 million dinars to support local municipalities
During the first meeting of the Supreme Council of Local Municipalities, Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Debaiba announced that 500 million dinars will be allocated to support local government
The Prime Minister and representatives from municipalities from all regions of Libya attended the first meeting of the Supreme Council of Local Municipalities yesterday.
Abdulhamid Al – Dabiba, Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, was accompanied by the two Deputy Prime Ministers, the Ministers of Local Government, Finance, Planning, Economy, Trade, Housing and Reconstruction, the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, and the Head of Government.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Debaiba delivered a speech urging municipal mayors to provide services to citizens despite their municipalities’ limited financial and technical resources.
The PM also announced that municipalities would be supported with 500 million dinars in financial allocations, as well as a decision on local revenue and the transfer of competencies from the Ministry of Housing and Reconstruction to the Ministry of Local Government.
During their discussions, a number of municipal mayors praised the Government of National Unity for its positive and effective role in supporting local administration and activating the role of municipalities, as reported by the Government Information Office.
The Supreme Council of Local Municipalities continues to meet in the capital, Tripoli, every two days, with the participation of all municipal mayors.
