Macron and Erdogan are united in their desire to end the Libyan conflict
Heads of the French and Turkish governments held a meeting on the sidelines of the NATO summit to discuss recent developments in Libya and ways to move forward in the region
According to the office of French President Emmanuel Macron, he met with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan and emphasized the urgent need for a united front to solve the challenges in Syria and Libya.
Erdogan also met with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson behind closed doors, followed by another meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel at NATO headquarters.
The Turkish President is accompanied by a high-level delegation to the summit, which is set to debate NATO’s future, the NATO road map for the next decade, his relations with Russia and China, climate change, and cyber threats.
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization is a military alliance made up of 30 European and North American countries. The organization implements the North Atlantic Treaty, which was signed on April 4, 1949, and is a collective defence system in which its sovereign member nations undertake mutual defence in the event of an attack by any external party.
The current NATO summit is seen as a periodic chance for NATO member countries’ heads of state and government to examine and provide strategic direction for Alliance activities.
