The General Syndicate of Libyan Doctors initiates the second phase of the strike
Libya's General Syndicate of Doctors enters their second stage of strike and threaten further escalation if the government does not respond to their demands
The General Syndicate of Libyan Doctors announced the extension of a week-long partial strike beginning on Sunday, June 13, by suspending various health facilities across Libya from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
In a statement, the Syndicate stated that at this stage of the strike, emergency rooms and emergency services for critical situations, emergency procedures, delivery, dialysis, care, oncology, and immunizations are not covered. Work in other departments and divisions should be halted completely.
The Syndicate asserted that if the Government does not respond to their demands, a general strike will be declared and all public health facilities throughout the country will be completely shut down, adding that they will communicate with the World Health Organization, the United Nations Children’s Fund, and other international organizations interested in Libya this week.
It also confirmed that they would not stand idly by and would take all legal measures to defend the rights of their affiliates against anyone who violates the law and the Constitutional Declaration and attempts to stop or block the strike on any grounds, specifically from health facility officials, and indicated that they have assigned a competent team to receive complaints, grievances, and suggestions.
