The Libyan Political Dialogue Forum will hold two-day discussions to examine the constitutional rule
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) announced the meeting of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum via video, Wednesday and Thursday, to discuss the constitutional basis for the elections
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) announced today that it will convene a meeting of the Libyan political dialogue forum for two days of visual contact.
The United Nations Special Envoy for Libya, Head of Mission Jan Kubis, attended the meeting’s opening and delivered the opening statement.
The meeting will include a discussion of the Forum’s Legal Committee’s proposal for a constitutional framework for presidential and parliamentary elections.
The meeting will update the Legal Commission’s proposal on the constitutional basis for the 24 December parliamentary and presidential elections, as agreed by the Forum’s Legal Commission during its meeting in Tunis on 7–9 April 2021 and subsequent consultations facilitated by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya.
The outcome of the Forum’s deliberations on this proposal will then be forwarded to the House of Representatives and the Supreme Council of State for consideration, with the presumption that the deadline of 1 July for the constitutional and electoral framework, as mandated by Security Council resolution 2570, must be taken into account in order for the High National Electoral Commission to proceed with the election.
