The US’s Ambassador to the UN calls for the immediate withdrawal of foreign forces from Libya
The US maintains its stance when it comes to foreign forces in Libya with its representative to the UN calling for the immediate departure of all forces violating the UN's arms embargo on the country
Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the United States (US) Ambassador to the United Nations (UN), advocated for all foreign parties involved in the Libyan war to cease military intervention and exit immediately.
Greenfield underlined the need of ending the training and financing of mercenaries, proxy troops, and armed groups in Libya during her speech to the UN Security Council on Friday. She stated unequivocally that all foreign military assistance that violates the UN arms embargo must be terminated.
Ján Kubis, the UN Envoy for Libya, today called for a phased departure of all foreign soldiers and mercenaries from Libya, under the supervision of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).
He emphasized the importance of maintaining the arms embargo, noting that Libya’s armed organizations pose a security concern beyond the country’s boundaries.
On Tuesday, an American delegation led by Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Joy Hood visited Tripoli, where they met with Libyan Foreign Minister Najla Al-Mangoush and Head of the Presidential Council Mohamed Al-Menfi.
During a joint press conference with Mangoush, Hood reaffirmed his country’s support for the GNU in holding free and fair elections, while denouncing the presence of armed groups and foreign forces in Libya.
