NCDC: AstraZeneca vaccine shipment arrives in Libya this week
Libya is set to receive a shipment of Oxford's AstraZeneca vaccine consisting of 117,000 doses to be administered as the initial jab
A shipment of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine is expected to arrive in Libya tomorrow, according to Abdel Basset Samio, the National Center for Disease Control’s (NCDC) Director of the Department of Vaccinations.
According to a statement from Samio, the British vaccine shipment, which contains 117,000 doses, will be administered to those who have been prioritized and registered in the system as the first dosage of a two-shot vaccination program.
He went on to say that, according to corporate pledges, a supply of an anticipated 1 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine would arrive in the next two weeks, along with a supply of 116,000 doses from AstraZeneca.
According to Samio, 125,000 citizens from various towns have benefited from the vaccination, which is administered at a rate of 15,000 doses a day.
On the 16th of May, Samio said that vaccination centres had begun receiving persons 65 and older who were targeted for vaccination and treating them with the Chinese vaccine.
Samio reiterated that the goal of inoculating as many people as possible with the first jab of the vaccine is to reduce infections and deaths, decrease the impact on isolation centres, and achieving high community immunity.
