Rome: Freed Italian hostages from Libya’s ISIS arrive home

Two Italians who were kidnapped in Libya in July have touched down in Rome just days after reports emerged that the other two hostages in their group had been killed.

It is not yet clear how Filippo Calcagno and Gino Pollicardo were freed, or who was holding the group hostage. They are expected to give their version of events to an Italian prosecutor.

Reports suggest they were separated from Fausto Piano and Salvatore Failla. They are said to have been killed in clashes between ISIL militants and local armed forces in Sabratha.

Pollicardo and Calcagno were freed from a house in the same, northwestern city.

The group of four was abducted from an oil and gas installation in western Libya upon return from a holiday in Tunisia.

They were in Libya working for Bonatti construction company, which specialises in jobs in remote locations, its website states.
