UN Security Council shamingly fails to condemn airstrike that killed dozens of migrants in Libya

The UN Security Council failed to issue a statement condemning the bombing in Libya.

The US earlier criticized the attack as “abhorrent,” but did not call for a ceasefire.

UN chief Antonio Guterres denounced the “horrendous” attack on a detention center in Tripoli and demanded an independent investigation.

A divided Security Council failed to condemn the strike on Tajoura migrants’ detention center, where 35 migrants were killed and over 120 others were wounded.

The council president, Peruvian Ambassador Gustavo Meza-Cuadra said in a statement: “We will have a press statement, but we are still discussing it.”
