US AFRICOM commander and ambassador visit Libya’s capital
The US ambassador to Libya, Peter Bodde, and the commander of the its Africa Command (AFRICOM) General Thomas Waldhauser arrived on Tuesday in Tripoli and met with the Head of the Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sirraj.
The meeting reviewed the continued support of the US and its AFRICOM for the coordination with and assistance to Libya in fighting terrorism and the ISIS remnants in the country.
The officials also reviewed the support for the political solution not the military one in Libya.
US ambassador and Waldhauser both told Al-Sirraj that their country backs up the efforts of the UN envoy Ghassan Salame in holding the Multaqa Al-Watani (National Conference) and then pave the way for constitutional parliamentary and presidential elections by the end of 2019.
They also hailed the efforts of Al-Sirraj in striking agreements among Libyan parties to reach consensus on uniting institutions, especially the military one, under a civilian authority.
