Central Bank of Libya announces new ‘plastic banknote’ in Tripoli
The Central Bank of Libya (CBL) yesterday announced the new version of the cash currency Category 1 Dinar, coinciding with the 8th anniversary of February 17 revolution.
It was during a ceremony held by the bank at its headquarters in the capital Tripoli, during which the Governor of CBL, Al-Siddiq Al-Kabeer, announced the start of the second edition of the new currency beginning on Monday.
CBL mentioned that Libya is one of the first countries to start dealing with plastic paper currency from 20 countries in the world.
The governor of CBL confirmed that the currency currently circulating in the dinar category would be gradually withdrawn from circulation.
For his part, the director of the issuing Department of the Bank revealed during the celebration the general specifications of the new metal category, which includes the dark blue and the front face reflects CBL and the back face reflects the Brega Oil Refinery and the Arch of Marcus Aurelius.
Among the specifications that have also been revealed are the presence of transparent nets inside the Polymer with a picture of Libya’s iconic resistance leader Omar Mukhtar (1862-1931) and the number (1) can be seen when the light from the back in addition to the micro print and colours of the shapes change under UV rays.
