Libya strongman Haftar rejects offer from Al-Sirraj to share power

The commander of the self-styled army in eastern Libya, Khalifa Haftar, has reportedly rejected an offer by the Head of the Presidential Council Fayez Al-Siarraj to share control of Libya and end the current political stalemate in the country, Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper reported.

According to the newspaper, Al-Sirraj sent a delegate to meet with Haftar in Al-Rajma, in the town of Marij in eastern Libya.

Al-Sirraj offered splitting power between him and Haftar, forming a new presidential council, giving Haftar a top military position and ministerial portfolios.

According to the newspaper, Haftar rejected the offer as he still thinks that Al-Sirraj and his government are illegitimate.
