WHO condemns Benghazi bombings, vows health support for the injured

World Health Organization (WHO) strongly condemned the double car bombing in Al-Salmani district in Benghazi on 23 January 2018 which killed and injured scores of civilians.
WHO extended in a statement on Friday its condolences to the victims’ families and renewed its humanitarian commitment to support Libyans throughout the country.
“WHO staff and focal points arrived at the venue shortly after the deadly attack and started to provide support to health authorities in Benghazi involved in treating the injured.” The statement reads.
The World Health Organization also stressed that it is closely following up the humanitarian situation with the local health authorities and stands ready to provide more support when required.
In this context, the WHO Libya office welcomes the continuous support of European Union Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid (ECHO) that makes WHO’s response to the urgent needs of the under-served populations in Libya possible.
