UN Security Council says Libyan Political Agreement only path to peace in Libya
The UN Security Council reiterated its support to the political agreement as the only viable framework for ending the Libyan political crisis.
The Security Council, in a statement on Thursday, rejected “incorrect dates” for ending the political agreement saying it will only “undermine the UN-facilitated political process.”
The Security Council also welcomed the launching of the registration campaign by the High National Elections Commission (HNEC).
In addition, the Security Council called for the House of Representatives (HOR) to “draft and approve a new electoral law,” encouraging the persistent progress toward “finalizing a new Libyan Constitution.”
The Security Council stressed that there “can be no military solution” to the Libyan crisis, pointing to the importance of consolidating armed forces in Libya and placing it under civilian leadership.
