Palestinians protest Trump decision on Jerusalem
Palestinian protests erupted, on Thursday, after the historic decision made the United States president Donald Trump to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
The controversial resolution sparked a widespread diplomatic criticism before it was even announced on Wednesday, with new warnings from Turkey, the European Union and Russia.
In a speech in Gaza City, Hamas leader Ismail Haniya called for an uprising. Protests were held in West Bank cities including Ramallah, Hebron and Nablus, as well as in the Gaza Strip.
The decision is a direct recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, but it does not state the physical borders and where Israel’s sovereignty begins and end. in his speech Trump said “final status issues, including the specific boundaries of the Israeli sovereignty in Jerusalem, or the resolution of contested borders, those questions are up to the parties involved”.
