The Silence Breakers, named Time Magazine Person of the Year
The Silence Breakers, women who broke silence on sexual abuse, named as Time Magazine Person of the Year.
Time magazine wrote ” the people who have broken their silence on sexual assault and harassment span all races, all income classes, all occupations and virtually all corners of the globe. Their collective anger has spurred immediate and shocking results. For their influence on 2017, they are TIME’s Person of the Year”.
The announcement comes after the reaction to allegations made by more than 80 women in the film industry accusing film producer Harvey Weinstein of sexual harassment, sexual assault and rape, which led to similar allegations against powerful men around the world.
The scandal also sparked a massive social media campaign, where women shared their own experiences of sexual assault, harassment, or rape under the hashtag #MeToo
