Chapecoense through to Copa Libertadores after a vigil for plane crash victims
In a dramatic game, the Brazilian club Chapecoense claimed victory with a goal in stoppage time against Coritiba clinching a spot in the qualifying rounds of next season’s Copa Libertadores.
The club continued their extraordinary recovery, a year after the plane crash that killed most of its players and staff.
The goal from Tulio de Melo, came in the fifth minute of stoppage time, which meant the side finished eighth in Brazil’s Série A to earn a place in next season’s Copa Libertadores.
The impressive result came a few days after a vigil was held to mark the one-year anniversary of the plane crash that killed 71 of the 77 people on board, including 19 of the club’s first-team players.
