Potential presidential candidate in Egypt denies kidnapping rumors
Ahmed Shafiq, a potential presidential candidate in Egypt, denied on Sunday evening that he was kidnapped by the Egyptian authorities.
Shafiq said in a telephone interview with Dream television that he was well received at Cairo International Airport on Saturday night.
In addition, Shafiq denied rumored arrest by the United Arabs Emirates (UAE) authorities prior to his return to Egyptian capital explaining that “he and his family received all the generosity, cooperation and good treatment from the Emirates.”.
In response to a question about his position on running for the presidential elections, Shafiq stuck to his stated position in the UAE saying ” my presence in Egypt allows me to confirm whether or not the decision to run will be applicable,”, stressing his commitment to his right to run for the presidency of Egypt in 2018.
